East Norriton Middle School - Schuylkill Action Students

This project restored a primary headwater stream on the campus of East Norriton Middle School before it flows into Stony Creek, a tributary to the Schuylkill River.  The project  involved stabilizing eroding streambank  installing energy dissipaters upstream of the eroded areas, converting 1.4 acres of turf grass to a deep-rooted meadow, and planting over 1 acre of riparian buffer.

PHASE I:The project restored a primary headwater stream, Stony Creek, before it flows into the Schuylkill River, by stabilizing eroding streambank, installing energy dissipaters upstream of the eroded areas, converting 1.4 acres of turf grass into deep-rooted meadow, and planting over one acre of riparian buffer.

PHASE II: A large rain garden was installed along Stony Run. A stormwater basin will be naturalized to treat runoff from the school’s parking lot.
