SUMMARY:(EPA)- Addressing Natural Hazards in Risk and Resilience Assessments and Emergency Response Plans
DESCRIPTION:Learn More\n\n\n\n\nSafe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) section 1433\, revised by America’s Water Infrastructure Act (AWIA) section 2013\, requires community water systems (CWS) serving over 3\,300 people to prepare (or revise) and certify risk and resilience assessments (RRAs) and emergency response plans (ERPs) to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) every five years. Recertification deadlines are occurring throughout 2025 and 2026. \n\n\n\nCWSs that serve less than 3\,301 people\, non-CWSs\, wastewater utilities\, and stormwater utilities are not required to certify completion of an RRA or ERP to EPA. However\, as natural disasters and malevolent acts also affect these utilities\, EPA encourages them to develop RRAs and ERPs to plan for potential disruptions. \n\n\n\nThis webinar will focus on natural hazards\, highlighting useful data sources and free technical assistance from EPA’s Strengthening Water Infrastructure for Tomorrow (SWIFT) initiative to help drinking water utilities\, wastewater utilities\, and stormwater utilities address natural hazards in their RRAs and ERPs.

SUMMARY:(Penn State Extension)- Water Cooler Talk: Soil Health Practices for Clean Water
DESCRIPTION:Learn More\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Live Webinar \n\n\n\nProtecting soil on agricultural lands is vital to both food production and environmental sustainability. Around the world\, soils are eroding faster than they are forming\, and conventional practices can accelerate this loss. Bare or highly disturbed soils are especially vulnerable to wind and water erosion\, allowing nutrients and sediments to wash into nearby waterways. What happens on Pennsylvania farms directly affects the health of the Chesapeake Bay. With support from non-profits\, conservation districts\, technical assistance providers\, and federal programs\, farmers can adopt soil health practices that safeguard their land and local water resources. This webinar will examine these practices\, exploring their benefits\, challenges\, and prevalence across Pennsylvania farms. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how agricultural stewardship upstream sustains water quality downstream. \n\n\n\nWho is this for? \n\n\n\n\nAnyone interested in water resources\n\n\n\nAgricultural landowners\n\n\n\nAgricultural producers\n\n\n\nConservation professionals\n\n\n\n\nWhat will you learn? \n\n\n\n\nHear about current work happening in the water resources field\n\n\n\nAsk questions about soil health practices and how they can enhance water quality\n\n\n\nShare ideas with professionals across Pennsylvania\n\n\n\nLearn about soil conservation and how it relates to water quality

SUMMARY:Sojourn Scholar 2026 Application Due
DESCRIPTION:Are you a teacher? Do you love to kayak and camp? Join the Schuylkill River Sojourn\, an annual 112-mile guided kayak/canoe trip from Schuylkill Haven to Philadelphia. \n\n\n\n\nMore on Schuylkill River Sojourn\n\n\n\n\nThe Schuylkill Action Network is funding one teacher to participate in this one-week trip and bring their experience back to the classroom. \n\n\n\nThe Sojourn Scholar will paddle all seven days of the Sojourn and be a full-trip participant along with hundreds of other paddlers. Please know that the sojourn is physically arduous and the Sojourn Scholar must be able to paddle approximately 15 miles a day along with the other physical tasks required to get down the river. This includes navigating portages around dams and carrying kayaks at put-ins and take-outs\, as well as setting up a tent each night. \n\n\n\nThe Sojourn Scholar is welcome to bring their own kayak\, paddle\, and PFD if they own one. However\, Schuylkill River Greenways (SRG) and their outfitter would be happy to set you up with all of the paddling gear you will need for the week free of charge. \n\n\n\nThe Sojourn Scholar will need all camping gear for a full week including a tent\, rainfly\, tarp\, sleeping pad\, sleeping bag\, dry bag\, etc.  If the Sojourn Scholar can not supply those items\, they will be provided through the Sojourn outfitter free of charge. \n\n\n\nThree meals are provided each day. The Sojourn host communities work very hard to ensure many options at each meal.  Vegetarian options will be available at all meals.  If you have additional dietary requirements beyond a vegetarian option\, you will need to provide those items for yourself for the week.  SRG would be happy to discuss transport of items that do not need to be refrigerated. \n\n\n\n\nSojourn Scholar 2026 Application
