PA DEP Environmental Education Grants

Administered through DEP, the funds are used for projects ranging from creative, hands-on lessons for students, teacher training programs, and outdoor learning resources to conservation education for adults. Projects may deliver both formal (K-12) and non-formal education programs targeting any audience, including, but not limited to, youth, teachers, municipal officials, farmers, developers, site designers, businesses, and homeowners or other community residents. Priorities include environmental justice, water, and climate change. There are 3 types of grants: (1) mini grants up to $3,000, (2) Level I General Grants up to $20,000 and (3) Level 2 General Grants up to $85,000. Penn State EESL/LIME Student Seed Grant Competition

The Energy and Environmental Sustainability Laboratories (EESL) and the Laboratory for Isotopes and Metals in the Environment (LIME) are pleased to announce an EESL Green Student Seed Grant competition for Spring 2020. The goal of this competition is to support the research of Penn State students who are interested in conducting analyses in any of the IEE/EESL and the EMS/LIME multi-user research facilities.

Sewage Facilities Program

Act 13 of 2012 establishes the Marcellus Legacy Fund and allocates funds to the Commonwealth Financing Authority (the “Authority”) for statewide initiatives for complying with the Act of January 24, 1966 (1965 P. L. 1535, No. 537), known as the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act. Grants up to $100,000 will be awarded for costs associated with the planning work required under 537.

Dirt Gravel, and Low Volume Road Maintenance Program

Section 9106 of the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Code annually provides for the allocation of $35,000,000 from the Motor Vehicle License Fund for the Dirt and Gravel Road Maintenance Program.  Of that amount, $7,000,000 is allocated directly to the Bureau of Forestry for maintaining the dirt and gravel roads in their jurisdictions.  The SCC is responsible for allocating the remaining $28,000,000 to the 64 County Conservation Districts who participate in the Dirt and Gravel Road Maintenance Program, including up to $8,000,000 for the maintenance of low-volume roads.

State Wildlife Grant Program

Funds for the State Wildlife Grants program (SWG) are provided by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to keep species from becoming federally listed as threatened or endangered. Annually appropriated by the U.S. Congress, Pennsylvania's funds are apportioned between the Fish and Boat Commission and Game Commission to address each agencies' trust species and habitats. The priority topic for the project will help support Pennsylvania's amphibian and reptile Species of Greatest Conservation Need found in the 2015-2025 Pennsylvania Wildlife Action Plan

The Conservation Easement Assistance Program provides small grants to conservation organizations to help cover the costs of:

  • Completing conservation as well as trail and fishing access easements
  • Amending and restating older easement documents

  • Installing signs on eased properties.

Growing Greener Plus Grants Program

The Environmental Stewardship and Watershed Protection Act, known as the Growing Greener Watershed Restoration and Protection Program (Growing Greener), was passed into law in December 1999.
