Celebrating 15 Years:
In 2018, the Schuylkill Action Network (SAN) is celebrating 15 years of successful partnerships, restoration, and protection in the Schuylkill River Watershed! In honor of this occasion, we've pulled together a simple press kit to make it easy for SAN partners to share the good news and highlight their involvement in this collaboration.
Fifteen years ago, the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) identified threats to the Schuylkill River Watershed, an area that encompasses 2,000 square miles from Schuylkill County down to Philadelphia and is a drinking water source for nearly 2 million people. As a result, PWD, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) founded the SAN as a way to work with partners upstream to protect Philadelphia’s drinking water.
When the SAN was formed, there were just a handful of partners. Now, there are nearly 350 organizational and individual partners working together to protect water resources. Many of these members serve on one or more of the SAN’s seven workgroups (Abandoned Mine Drainage, Agriculture, Education and Outreach, Pathogens and Point Source, Recreation, Stormwater and Watershed Land Protection. Learn more about the SAN's key milestones by visiting our History page.
To celebrate the 15th anniversary, there will be a series of special events and new opportunities for individuals to engage with the SAN and the Schuylkill River Watershed. These events include Schuylkill Scrub litter cleanups, special bus tours, and a special SAN annual meeting. Stay updated about 15 year anniversary events by visiting our Events page.
