DEP Draft 2020 Water Quality Report Found 25,468 Miles Of Streams Have Impaired Water Quality

The PA DEP is inviting comments on the draft 2020 Integrated Water Quality Monitoring and Assessment Report. The report found 25,468 miles of streams in Pennsylvania-- about 30 percent, and an increase from 2016-- have impaired water quality for one or more uses--  water supply (84 miles), aquatic life (17,547 miles), recreation (9,935 miles) or fish consumption (2,817 miles).

Philly looks for signs of COVID-19 in its raw sewage

RNA found in sewage can help detect rises in Coronavirus as an "early warning system." Temple University has been collecting wastewater samples from the Philadelphia Water Department for the past 6 weeks and hopes to begin analyzing samples soon. Please note that it is unlikely that COVID19 can spread via water, and this is being used as a surveillance tool to predict and prepare for further outbreaks.
