A dedication ceremony held for the South to Christian streets extension of the Schuylkill River Trail that opened this past January was held Friday morning. Due to high winds and chilly weather, the speeches were held indoors at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Roberts Center Plaza. In particular the additional 1,400 feet added length to the Schuylkill Banks Boardwalk was highlighted.

 A log jam beneath a bridge that serves a bicycle and pedestrian trail along the Schuylkill River (above), just west of Berks County’s historic Morlatton Village, is creating a hazard for recreational users and will be professionally cleared between today (Friday, April 20, 2018) and early May, according to the Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area.

Contractors have begun removing a log jam from under the Douglassville bike/pedestrian Bridge along the Thun Section of the Schuylkill River Trail, just west of Morlatton Village.  The build up of logs, debris and trash along the bridge piers has created a hazard for paddlers in the river, and, if allowed to continue, could undermine the bridge.
